Lisa Yui
is the winner of the first Super Classic International Auditions in Tokyo (1999), the 23rd Senigallia International Piano Competition in Italy (1994), the Toronto Symphony Concerto Competition, and the Edmonton Symphony Concerto Competition. Her performances and masterclasses have taken her throughout Canada, the United States, Italy and Japan. She has also won the Canadian Consulate Women's Club Piano Competition in New York and is a two-time recipient of the Canada Council Scholarship.
As a lecturer, Lisa has been invited to various colleges and venues, the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, Kunitachi Music University, Washington and Lee University, and the Museum of American Pianos. Lisa has performed with various orchestras from the age of seven, including the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in Suntory Hall under the baton of Heiichiro Ohyama, the Polish National Radio Orchestra with Antoni Wit, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in Roy Thompson Hall, the Krakow State Philharmonic, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, and the Sinfonia Nova Amadeus. During the summer of 2001, Lisa was the featured guest artist on the Japanese world cruise ship, Nipponmaru. Her concerts have been broadcast on CBC (Canadian Broadcast Corporation) national radio, CJRT-FM (Ontario, Canada), and STV (Sapporo, Japan). Lisa has played in masterclasses for many prestigious musicians, including Emmanuel Ax, Alicia de Larrocha, Leon Fleisher, Conrad Hansen, Eugene Istomin, Anton Kuerti, and Giovanni Valentini. Lisa received her Bachelor's degree at the Juilliard School in New York, studying in the studio of Oxana Yablonskaya and working as teaching assistant to the author, professor and pianist, David Dubal. After studying with Byron Janis at the Manhattan School of Music, she received her Masters degree and the school's Rubinstein Award, awarded to the most promising graduate. Lisa teaches at the Marymount College in Manhattan, where she leads a course on the social history of the piano. She is the producer, performer, and lecturer of Lives of the Piano, the first piano lecture concert series at the Manhattan School of Music. She is also on the faculty of the Music Advancement Program (MAP) at the Juilliard School. Reviews
