Hanno Strydom
Born in Ireland to South-African parents in 1978, cellist Hanno Strydom has steadily gained recognition as one of the leading young Irish musicians. Having received his formative training from Christopher Marwood, cellist of the Vanbrugh String Quartet, he continued his studies with Steven Doane at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, USA, where his distinctions include being awarded the Performers Certificate in 2000, and winning the Eastman School Concerto Competition in 2001. He graduated from Eastman with a Bachelor of Music degree in May 2001.

Hanno Strydom has appeared as concerto soloist at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and the RTE Concert Orchestra, and in the US with the Eastman Philharmonia, under William Eddins, resident conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has also made several concert appearances with the Vanbrugh String Quartet, as well as a number of broadcasts on RTE Lyric FM. In July 2000 Hanno was the soloist at the Dublin Masterclasses for young conductors under the guidance of Gerhard Markson, Principal Guest Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. He has twice attended the Bowdoin Summer Music School & Festival, USA, and since 1997 he has performed annually on the Young Musicians' Platform at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, as the cellist in various chamber ensembles. In partnership with pianist, Kristian Bezuidenhout, he presented the opening concert at the Bloomington Early Music Festival 1999, Indiana, USA, playing Beethoven cello sonatas on period instruments, a performance praised by the press for it's "impromptu feel" and "interpretative freshness".

Hanno Strydom is currently continuing his studies at the Eastman School, pursuing a two-year Master of Music degree in Performance and Literature. He serves as Teaching Assistant to Professor Doane, as well as performing in the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, having been awarded an Orchestral Studies Fellowship. He wishes to thank the Bank of Ireland Millennium Scholars Trust for their generosity in assisting him with his undergraduate studies.
