Luc Ponet, geboren te Hasselt (B), bouwde een internationale reputatie op door successen op gerenommeerde orgelfestivals waaronder Parijs, Warschau, Tokyo, Mexico, Chicago, het Festival van Vlaanderen, en het wereldberoemde Bamboe-orgelfestival van Las Pinas (Manila - Filippijnen). Hij studeerde hoofdvak orgel en schriftuur aan de muziekhogeschool "het Lemmensinstituut" te Leuven waar hij o.a. het Hoger Diploma voor orgel - de Prix d'excellence - met de grootste onderscheiding (klas van prof. Chris Dubois) behaalde. Zijn artistieke ontwikkeling werd nadien zeer sterk beïnvloed door verdere studies (orgel en improvisatie) bij prof. Dr. Hans Haselböck (Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst) te Wenen.

Van 1982 tot 2000 was Luc Ponet docent (orgel) aan het Lemmensinstituut te Leuven. In 1988 werd hij aangesteld als organist-titularis van het monumentale Le Picard-orgel in de Basiliek van Tongeren, en in 1996 was hij gastprofessor aan de Concordia-universiteit van River Forest (Chicago). Sedert 1999 is hij 'organist in residence' van de landcommanderij Alden Biesen, het Europees Cultuurcentrum van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap te Rijkhoven - Bilzen.

Momenteel, en dit vanaf september 2000, combineert Luc Ponet zijn activiteiten als organist en gastprofessor (Lemmensinstituut) met de functie van Inspecteur Deeltijds Kunstonderwijs (muziek) bij het Ministerie van de Vlaamse Gemeenschap. Het is dan ook net die brede oriëntatie in combinatie met zijn begeesterende gedrevenheid die Luc Ponet een wereldwijde faam bezorgen als uitvoerend musicus en gastdocent.

L'organiste Luc Ponet naquit à Hasselt (B). Sa participation aux fameux festivals de musique d'orgue de Paris, Varsovie, Tokyo, Mexique, Chicago et au Festival de Flandres, lui assurèrent une renommée internationale. Avec la plus grande distinction, il obtint le Diplôme Superieur - dit " Prix d'excellence " - à l'Institut Supérieur de Musique, mieux connu sous le nom de Lemmensinstituut de Louvain (dans la classe de prof. Chris Dubois). Son développement artistique fut fortement marqué par les cours spécialisés et de maîtrise (orgue et improvisation) avec le professeur Hans Haselböck, Hochschule für Musik à Vienne.

En 1982, Luc Ponet fut nommé Professeur d'orgue au Lemmensinstituut de Louvain. En 1988, il devient organiste-titulaire des orgues monumentales Le Picard de la Basilique de Tongres. Pendant l'année 1996, il séjourna à River Forest (Chicago, Ill.) en qualité de professeur extra-ordinaire de la Concordia University. Depuis 1999, il est 'organiste en residence' de l'orgue Van Peteghem à Alden Biesen, centre culturel Européenne de la Communauté flamande.

Maintenant, et en combinaison avec ses activités comme organiste, Luc Ponet est Inspecteur pour l'éducation d'art du Ministère de la Communauté flamende. L'étendue de cet horizon, en combinaison avec son enthousiasme convaicant, lui assurent une réputation mondiale comme interprète et professeur extra-ordinaire de cours de perfection et de maîtrise.

The organist Luc Ponet, born in Hasselt (B) gives credit for his international reputation above all to his successful performances in many renowned organ festivals, as well as in Paris, Warsaw, Tokyo, Mexico, Chicago, and in the Festival of Flanders. He received the Diplôme Superieur, the so-called "Prix d'excellence", with great distinction (class of prof. Chris Dubois) at the College of Music "Lemmensinstituut" in Leuven. Later, his artistic development was greatly influenced by further studies (in organ and improvisation) with Prof. Dr. Hans Haselböck at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna.

In 1982 Luc Ponet was appointed Professor for Organ at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. In 1988 he became Organist-Titular of the monumental Le Picard-organ in the Basilica in Tongeren (B), and in 1996 he was a guest professor of organ at Concordia University in River Forest (Chicago, Ill.). In 1999 he became the 'organist in residence' of Alden Biesen, the European cultural centre of the Flemish Community in Rijkhoven-Bilzen (B).

In september 2000 Mr. Ponet was appointed inspector for the art-education in the state academies of music / music schools. Together with his activities as an organist, this broad orientation in combination with his enthusiastic drive give Luc Ponet a world-wide renown as an interpreter of organ music and guest professor for workshops and masterclasses.
