Duo :nota bene: Salzburg Violin and piano duo | |
Eva Steinschaden (violin) and Alexander Vavtar (piano) founded the Duo nota bene in 1996.
Engaged in instrumental teaching since the completion of their musical studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, they have specialised in the music of the Viennese Classical school, devoting attention also to modern and in particular contemporary music. In 1998, they made their CD debut with works by Mozart, Schubert, Granados, Webern and Pärt. This was followed in 2000 by the second CD, with works by Mozart, Ravel, Schnittke and Kardeis. (Both CDs are available on the Viennese "Extraplatte" label.) In 1999, the duo was the only Austrian ensemble to be accepted for the master class held by the Trio di Trieste. Since then, they have collaborated with the world-famous musicians of the Trio di Trieste at the Scuola Superiore di Musica da Camera in Trieste. Since its inception, the duo :nota bene: has given many concerts, in Austria, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Syria, Lebanon, Mexico, Belize and Japan, and has received invitations from prestigious concert organisers such as the Salzburg Festival, to take part at the openings celebration for the Salzburg Festival 2002, the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg/Austria, the Jeunesse Musical of Austria, the Schubert Society Vienna/Austria, the Mozart Society Wiesbaden/Germany, the "Little Maarnach Festival" in Maarnach/Luxembourg, the Mozart Society Kagoshima/Japan, the "Festival Cultural de Zacatecas" in Zacatecas/Mexico and the Festival "Joven es Acción" in Querétaro/Mexico. The duo :nota bene: aims to present, in recitals and recordings, the diversity of the repertoire for violin and piano. If the music of our own century is listened to with interest and openness, it can offer new and undreamt-of insights into the works of great masters of the past. One of the duo's artistic priorities is to make listeners more receptive to unfamiliar sounds.
At the start of the 21st century, the duo :nota bene: seeks to break down antiquated structures, to awaken interest in new ideas and, through its social commitment, to keep alive the love of all styles and periods of good music. Contact details and further information
