She has won several prizes in competitions. In 2000 Sharon won the Petrof Concours, and in 2001 she got an honourable mention by the jury at the Prinses Christina Competition. A year later, in 2002, she reached the 3rd place at the Provincial Competition of the SJMN and she won the Young Talent Competition of the Philipshall Eindhoven. This competition led to a performance with the Helikon Orchestra under direction of Kian Pin Hiu in the Philips Hall. The following year (2003) she had a succesful performance with the Dutch Promenade Orchestra under direction of Jurre Haanstra, in the same hall. In 2004 she won the national final of the Prinses Christina Competition. She is now due to perform in the Carnegie Hall in New York, with a few finalists. She also will get masterclasses and concerts abroad, and furthermore Sharon will perform a number of concerts with the Dutch Youth Orchestra. Sharon has given many concerts in the Netherlands, and has performed on radio and television.

She has recently participated in more masterclasses, with musicians including Rian de Waal, Igor Roma and Ronald Brautigam. Last year Sharon went to the Czech Republic and since then has performed together with the 16-year-old Martine Wijers, violinist and pupil of the Young Talent Class.

Sharon regularly gives concerts together with pupils/students of the Young Talent Class, but also as a duo and solo pianist.

Sharon Niessen (1986) is geboren in Eindhoven, waar ze ook op het Pleincollege Eckart in HAVO 5 zit. Ze is op haar 9e begonnen met pianolessen bij Suzanne van Dijk. Naast haar school studeert zij sinds haar 14e piano in de Jong Talentklas van het Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg, waar ze les krijgt van Ton Demmers.

Ze haalde diverse prijzen op concoursen: In het jaar 2000 won Sharon het Petrof Concours, in 2001 kreeg zij een eervolle vermelding van de jury op het Prinses Christina Concours. Een jaar later, 2002, behaalde Sharon een 3e prijs op het Provinciaal Concours van de SJMN en won het Jong Talent Concours van het Muziekcentrum Frits Philips in Eindhoven. Dit concours leverde een optreden op met het Helikon Orkest o.l.v. Kian Pin Hiu, in de grote zaal van het Muziekcentrum Frits Philips te Eindhoven. Het jaar daarna heeft Sharon weer een succesvol optreden verzorgd, in dezelfde zaal, met het Nederlands Promenade Orkest o.l.v. Jurre Haanstra, tijdens 'Night in Lighttown'.

Dit jaar (2004) heeft Sharon een 1e prijs behaald tijdens de landelijke finale van het Prinses Christina Concours. Nu gaat ze in november een concert geven in Carnegie Hall in New York, samen met een paar medefinalisten. Ook krijgt Sharon volgend jaar masterclasses en concerten in het buitenland en bovendien mag zij een aantal keren optreden met het JeugdOrkest Nederland.

Ook heeft Sharon diverse optredens verzorgd in Nederland, en was te horen (en te zien) op de radio en televisie.

Sharon heeft al een aantal masterclasses gevolgd, o.a. bij Rian de Waal, Igor Roma en Ronald Brautigam.

Sinds vorig jaar speelt Sharon ook samen met de 16-jarige violiste Martine Wijers, een medeleerling uit de Jong Talentklas.
