Bálint Karosi
was born in Budapest, Hungary. He began piano studies at the age of six, and organ studies while in high school. He is also a clarinet player and composer. From 1997-1999 he studied at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with Gábor Lehotka. His studies continued from 1999-2001 at the Conservatoire Superieure de Musique de Geneva in the "classe de virtuosité" with Lionel Rogg, where he received his "Prix de virtousité avec distinction" in organ and in clarinet performance. His clarinet teacher was Thomas Friedli. Since 2001 he has been studying at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with János Pálúr (organ) and Béla Kovács (clarinet).
During his studies in Switzerland Mr. Karosi was awarded a full scholarship of the Swiss Federation. He has won prizes several international competitions as both organist and clarinetist. In 2001 he won the Grand prix d'improvisation "Rochette" at Geneva's conservatory, second prize at the Carl Maria von Weber clarinet competiton in Essen and third prize at the organ competition in Korschenbroich, Germany . He also won a third prize and a prize of the public at the competition "Dom zu Speyer" in 2000, and a special prize of the National Meeting of Young Organists in 1997. Recently, he received the first prize at the International Organ Competition in Dublin, and in May 2002 won the second prize at Prague's Spring International Clarinet Competition. He participated in master classes in Sion and Villecroze. Bálint Karosi has performed in Hungary, Switzerland, Ireland, Poland, Germany, France and in the United States. In 2000 he appeared amongst five young musicians from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Budapest making a concert tour in Washington DC., Houston, Betlehem, New York, and Sarasotha where he gave an organ recital at the Episcopal church. He has performed for radio and television and recorded a CD with a composition of his. He has worked with Fabio Luisi and the "Orchestre de la Suisse Romande" and was a soloist of the "Duisburger philharmoniker" conducted by Daniel Lipton.
