| Petar Jankovic Guitar | |
What people seem to find most appealing about Petar Jankovic are his very expressive, emotional and communicative interpretations, and that is something audiences easily relate to. When people listen to Petar, while they are conscious of listening to a classical guitar player, they are also conscious of hearing a real person expressing honest emotions through playing. "...His performance can best be described as romance in sound!", Herald Times (Bloomington, IN).
Since Jankovic started his professional performing career in 1985, he has performed numerous recitals and given master classes in both Europe and the United States. Performing at the major international competitions, both his artistic sensibility and his deeply personal, yet universally evocative sound were highly regarded and made him a winner of important prizes:
As a student in his native Yugoslavia, where he earned his degree in classical guitar from the Music Academy in Belgrade, he also won important prizes at the National Music Competitions: the gold medal (twice), the silver medal, and the bronze medal (twice). No wonder that even at that early stage of Petar's career a critic in well known Yugoslavian newspaper wrote: "Petar Jankovic presented himself as guitarist with talent and power. His performance showed us his skillful virtuosity as well as his beautiful and expressive lyricism.", Politika Expres (Belgrade, Yugoslavia). After beginning his guitar studies at age 8, Petar had his first professional performance at age 16. At age 20, the Community College in Belgrade invited young and talented Jankovic, already an award-winning musician, to teach beginning classical guitar students. This was the start of a lasting teaching career which developed along the performing career. In 1996 he was invited to the United States to pursue the prestigious Artist Diploma Degree at the Indiana University School of Music under the guidance of Maestro Ernesto Bitetti. In 1997 while still finishing his graduate degree, he created a guitar program at the Franklin College, Indiana. Currently, Jankovic is a faculty member at Indiana University School of Music, University of Indianapolis and at the Franklin College. In 1998 Jankovic has released his CD "Romantico". With this recording Petar explores the sound of the romantic Spanish and Latino-American world featuring compositions by famous composers such as Albeniz, Torrobba, Pipo, Piazzolla, Ponce ... Marija Ciric, music reviewer in "Politika", the most important daily newspaper in Belgrade, Yugoslavia had this to say about Petar's CD: "Jankovic is a musician of a strong artistic personality, with the Infinite subtlety of expression. Apart from being very musical, Jankovic also possesses technical mastery, manifest in his precise and carefully defined way of playing. He is one of those artists capable of extraordinary musical achievements." All Petar's accomplishments and recognition make Jankovic a rising star among the world's best young musicians today. However, the statement of Luis Zea, well-known composer and guitarist from Venezuela, may be the best way to describe the essence of Petar's artistic personality: "He is a natural poet!" Reviews
