The Russian pianist and fortepianist Vasily Ilisavsky plays preferably on period instruments. That does not mean only the fortepiano, but any instrument appropriate to the time and the composition. For example, Vasily plays Debussi on a 1887 Erard, Schubert and Schumann - on a 1825 Fritz, Haydn - on a 1788 Stein, and Skrjabine - on a russian piano with english action.

Born in 1972 in St Petersburg, he received his first piano lesson at the age of six.

In 1991, after his studies at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music College, St-Petersburg (piano,composition and harpsichord), he entered the St-Petersburg Conservatory, joining the class of Prof. Helena Shishko.

In the following year, he was among the laureates of the first international Prokofiev Competition, wich enabled him to set out on a soloist career in Russia. Since then, he was a regular guest of the St-Petersburg Philharmohy and the Capella Hall.

In the early Nineties, he also played the harpsichord with the Ars Consoni Baroque Ensemble.

In 1995, granted a scholarship by Gartow-Stiftung (Hamburg), he went to study with Prof. Oleg Maisenberg at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.

During this same period, he frequently played with a Russian duet partner, cellist K.Kravtsov. They recorded several recitals for German radio stations, including the Bayerischer Rundfunk, the SWR and the NDR.

In 1997, he was a laureate of the "Concours Clara Schumann" in Düsseldorf.

Since 1999, Vasily was again approaching to historical performance practice. He has specialized in fortepiano at the Musikhochschule Trossingen with Eckart Sellheim - one of the pioneers of the fortepiano revival, - and with Bart van Oort in Antwerp.

Vasily Ilisavsky now lives in Brussels. He frequently includes three types of historical fortepianos in his concert programs, as well as the modern piano.

Pianist und Fortepianist Vassily Ilissavsky spielt am liebsten auf historischen Flügel. Historisch heisst nicht unbedingt nur Hammerflügel, sondern jedes für die Zeit und den Komponisten passende Instrument. In 1995 ging er nach Stuttgart als Stipendiat der Gartow-Stiftung, und tritt in die Klasse des Prof.Oleg Masenbergs ein. In der Zeit von 1995 bis 99 konzertierte er öfters mit dem russischen Cello-Partner K.Kravtsov und hat mit ihm mehrere Rundfunkaufnahmen eingespielt (z.B. wie beim Bayerischen Rundfunk, SWR, NDR). In 1997 wurde er Preisträger beim “Concours Clara Schumann” in Düsseldorf.

Gegen Ende der 90-ger näherte er sich wieder den historischen Instrumenten - diesmal dem Fortepiano. Er studierte das in Trossingen unter Leitung von Prof. Eckart Sellheim - einem der Pioniere der Wiederentdeckung des Hammerflügel in Deutschland - und in Antwerpen bei Prof. Bart van Oort.

Von 2002 bis 2004 lebte er in Brüssel.

Saison 2003-2004 (Brüssel) - Palais des Beaux-Arts, Conservatoire, Musee van Buuren, Theatre Scarabeus, Chateau Saint-Anne. Konzerttätigkeit - in Belgien, Russland, Deutschland, Holland mit Programmen auf drei verschiedenen Modellen der frühen Fortepianos (zusammen und getrennt), und späteren, sowohl wie auch modernen Flügel.

Seit 2004 lebt er in Den Haag.
