Elena Hammel
Puertorican pianist Elena Hammel, who has been described by the press as "a pianist of great talent and sensibility" (El Nuevo Día, San Juan PR), has caught the attention of critics from The New York Times and The Boston Herald for her performance of György Ligeti’s music. She was also the winner of the highest piano award at the Feis Ceoil Music Competition in Ireland in 1997.

She obtained a Bachelor in Music Degree with Honors from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston in 1995, where she studied with Stephen Drury, and went on to get a a Master in Music with High Honors from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, studying with Dr. John O'Conor. Other teachers have included Ferenc Rados, Joaquín Soriano, Aquiles Delle Vigne and Patricia Zander.

Winner of the most important piano awards in Puerto Rico, she has performed as guest soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, the Padre Antonio Soler Chamber Orchestra, and the Puerto Rico Chamber Orchestra. She has also performed concerts in New York, Boston, Italy, Austria, Holland, Ireland and Spain, and has been coached by Joaquín Achúcarro, Christopher Elton, Fanny Waterman, Pnina Salzman, Andzrej Jasinski, Ann Schein and Vladimir Ovchinikov, among others.

Elena’s performances have been recorded for broadcast on radios Duinrand (Holland), WGBH (Boston), WIPR (Puerto Rico), and for TU- TV television (Puerto Rico). Along with her career as soloist she also forms part of the successful Dúo Hammel – Sánchez, which is dedicated to promoting the repertoire for piano four hands.
