Dr. Howard Jonathan Fredrics
has received numerous commissions to compose works for theatre, film, dance, interactive media and concert performance. His compositions, published by Auracle Music, and Franklin-Douglas Music and recorded on the Centaur, DIEM, SEAMUS/EAM, HEAR, Otava, Diffusion i Media and Omnimusic/OM labels, have been performed and broadcast internationally. Dr. Fredrics has received Emmy and Telly awards for his music for television as well as prizes for his work in the Bourges, Luigi Russolo, Musica Nova, Tampa Bay Composers' Forum and SEAMUS competitions. His music and sound design for computer games by Nintendo and New World Computing have also earned critical acclaim. Dr. Fredrics has received grants from the National Endowment for The Arts, Meet The Composer and the Fulbright Commission for residencies at the Royal College of Music and EMS, Stockholm, where he has continued to work on a regular basis. He has also lectured at musical institutions throughout the U.S., Brazil, Finland and Sweden. Since receiving a B.M. degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1985, Dr. Fredrics has taught at Oberlin, Brown University, Austin Community College, Western Carolina University and The University of Texas, from where he received the D.M.A degree in Composition.
