Luis Fiestas
Violin, Composer | |
Luis Fiestas was born in Piura, Peru in 1966. As a child he learnt violin and clarinet from his father, and in his youth he played with his brothers in church services in Piura and most of all as a popular musician in local groups. He began his formal education as a violinist at the age of 17 in the Conservatory of Lima. There he performed as the young soloist of the Conservatory orchestra and as the soloist of the Camerata de Lima Orchestra. For a while in 1987 he studied in Stuttgart, Germany, but was forced to return home. Two years later he returned to Europe. This time he studied for three years in Salzburg, Austria, in the master class of Ruggiero Ricci. Currently Luis Fiestas plays the violin in the orchestra of the National Opera of Finland. His composing career began essentially in the uear 1998. The first pieces for string quartet, in a very folklore-influenced style, were performed at a benefit concert for the victims of the floods caused by the "El Niņo". Ever since, Latin America has yielded an unlimited means of expression in his compositions within the framework of a typically-European classical string quartet.
