Subhadra Desai was initiated into lndian Classical Music at an early age at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya under Late Pt Vinay Chandra Maudgalya and Smt Padma Devi. She completed Sangeet Visharad with distinction and was awarded the Delhi Sahitya Kala Parishad Scholarship for young artists in 1990.

Subhadra draws close to the well springs of Indian tradition by virtue of being a post graduate in Sanskrit from Delhi University. This qualifies her rendering of devotional music with a tangible intensity that moves her listeners.

Subhadra creatively combines her musical and academic training in lecture - demonstration expositions before discerning audiences. She is a regular speaker at Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi, on History and Evolution of Indian Classical Music.

Subhadra has performed at prestigious national music festivals: Pt. Vishnu Digambar Jayanti, New Delhi, Swaralaya, New Delhi and Uttaradhikar-Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal, and has been empanelled as an artist by ICCR. She was awarded a Gold Medal for outstanding achievement at the Korea Spring Festival in April 1999.

At present, Subhadra continues to receive valuable guidance from Shri Madhup Mudgal in order to achieve greater rigour and finer artistic insight. She is also pursuing a research on the subject of 'Musical Heritage of the Valmiki Ramayana' as part of her Ph.D. thesis.

In the words of a distinguished music critic, 'Subhadra has embarked on a daunting journey, but there is little doubt that she will find a haven in it.'
