Following her studies at the Yehudi Menuhin School, where her teachers included Vlado Perlemuter and Nadia Boulanger, the Lancashire born KATHRYN STOTT graduated to the Royal College of Music where she studied with Kendall Taylor. Her international career was launched after winning fifth prize in the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1978. Since then, she has performed with the major Great British Orchestras alongside their foreign counterparts in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, France and Hong Kong. Her schedule also includes extensive recital and chamber music performances at venues such as the Konzerthaus, Vienna, the Suntory Hall, Tokyo and at the Wigmore Hall, London, where she gave a series of concerts in December 1998.

Over the past twelve years, Kathryn Stott has also received much critical acclaim for her imaginative and innovative recordings for labels such as Argo / Decca, EMI, Unicorn-Kanchana, Bis, Philips, Conifer and Hyperion. These recordings include the complete works for solo piano and Ballade by Gabriel Fauré, piano works by Chabrier and Sonatas for violin and piano by Busoni with the Swedish violinist, Per Enoksson, with whom she has also formed a trio with the cellist Truls Mork. Most recent is the release of "The Soul Of the Tango" CD for which she collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma and which features the music of Astor Piazzolla. This was released by Sony at the end of 1997.

In recognition of her achievements as an ambassador of French music, she was appointed Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Government. She was also nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Society Award following her role as the artistic director.

Similarly in March 1998, she was artistic director of a festival entitled "Out of the Shadows" which focused on the music of Fanny Mendelssohn and Clara Schumann which was held in Liverpool. Alongside her chamber music trio performances, she also played the Clara Schumann Piano Concerto with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic conducted by Petr Altrichter.

Kathryn Stott works extensively as a chamber musician and as well as her regular performances with Yo-Yo Ma and the trio already mentioned, she also regularly appears with Michael Collins and with the Lindsay, Chilingirian, Skampa and Yggdrasil String Quartets. She is also a member of a tango trio called "Tango Tiempo" with Nestor Marconi (bandoneon) and Pablo Aslan (double bass).

In 1997 Kathryn Stott performed the world premiere in London of the Sir Peter Maxwell Davies piano concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Austrian premiere took place in Linz in January 1998 with the Bruckner orchestra. Her plans for 1999 include a tango tour in Japan, recital tours in Europe with Yo-Yo Ma and Michael Collins and numerous appearances at summer music festivals in Germany, Norway and Holland.
