Cornet

John Hudson Born into a musical family in Britain, John Hudson soon joined the local band, before being invited to join the Manchester C.W.S. Band under the direction of Alex Mortimer. His long career in music has included positions as Principal Cornet and as Conductor and Musical Director with various well-known bands. John has for a number of years been regarded as the doyen of cornet soloists in the U.K.

As well as countless concert performances and radio and television broadcasts, John Hudson is featured as soloist and conductor on a number of recordings, including two CDs in the "Sovereign Soloists" series.

After some years as Professor of Cornet at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and other university teaching posts, John has now moved to Norway where he devotes himself to an active performing career.

His solo performing career has taken him to Britain, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Norway, Gibraltar and Japan. In 1984, John played for the Queen at Buckingham Palace, and two years later was Guest soloist at the Gala Concert in the Royal Albert Hall, London.

John Hudson's distinguished conducting career has taken him to Britain, Switzerland, Norway, Holland, Germany, Israel and New Zealand, His many successes have included Winning Conductor of the CWS Glasgow Band at the National Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall, London (1990), Winning Conductor of Radøy Bras at N.M. Div. 2.(1990), Runner up Conductor of the Tredegar Band from South Wales at the National Championships of Great Britain, at the Royal Albert Hall, London (1992), Winning Conductor at Grenland Brass Festival, 1st Division, with Molde Brass Band (2000) and Conductor of Ørskog Brass Band to 2nd place at NM in Bergen (2000).

John is also in demand as an adjudicator at many contests in Britain and Norway.
