The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Ton Koopman
The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 1999. Since its creation in 1979, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra has become one of the preeminent ensembles of the world under the leadership of Ton Koopman. Bringing together the finest baroque specialists from throughout Europe and the United States, the orchestra has become firmly established at the pinnacle of authentic instrument ensembles through its frequent international tours and critically acclaimed recordings. In 1992 Ton Koopman founded the Amsterdam Baroque Choir, which has risen rapidly to the ranks of the finest choirs of the world. In 1994 the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir embarked on a project to record the complete Cantatas of J.S. Bach Currently eight 2-CD sets have been completed. The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Choir tmade its first joint tour of the United States with J.S. Bach's B Minor Mass in November 1996, appearing at many of the country's leading concert halls including Avery Fisher Hall in New York City and Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. The orchestra returned to Avery Fisher Hall in February 1999 in a much-praised collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma.

Ton Koopman, founder of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir is one of the leading figures in early music: an organist, harpsichordist and conductor of international renown.
