Harri Wessman Harri Wessman (b. March 29, 1949) is known as a prolific composer of instrumental music -- in particular solo works and concertos for a wide variety of instruments. His music is characterised by a warmth and lyricism which eschews the application of obtrusive "modernism" at the expense of emotion.

Wessman studied musicology and foreign languages at the University of Helsinki from 1967 to 1973 and composition with Joonas Kokkonen, first privately and from 1973 to 1978 at the Sibelius Academy. He has been a music critic and a music editor for radio, and he has taught theory of music in a variety of places, including the Sibelius Academy.
