Roger Arve Vigulf was born in Spjelkavik, Norway in 1964, and studied at Norway's Eastern Conservatory of Music with Professor Richard Kjelstrup, as well as with Leif Jørgensen & Lee Morgan.
As clarinet soloist, he is known for his brilliant performances of contemporary/classical music.
Vigulf has participated in many different projects, and has been soloist in festivals such as the Fartein Valen and the Tromsø Chamber Music Festival. Vigulf has also performed as an orchestra musician at the ULTIMA festival in Oslo (1996-99). Vigulf has been substitute clarinetist in The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and he has been permanent substitute clarinetist in The Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra since 1994, mostly as principal clarinetist and E-flat clarinetist. He was appointed principal clarinetist at the Kritiansund Opera /Theatre for the season 1998, but since Autumn 1998 he has focused on his solo career.
As soloist, he has performed together with Professor Einar Henning Smebye (piano), Geir Henning Braaten (piano) and the Cicada string quartet (1997). His many Norwegian premières have included Melasian Equatian by Stephen Gardner(Ireland), Tuireadh by James McMillan(Scotland) and Trauermusik by Klaus Lang (Germany). Overseas performances with the Norwegians Frank T. Nordensten, Oddvar Lønner, Trygve Madsen and, in Spring 2000, the British Natasha Barrrett together with the contemporary dancer Jane Hveding. Vigulf has also commisioned works by national and international composers.
For the year 2000 he has many interesting projects, such as a 10-day tour in Lithuania with The Vilnius String quartet, and the Bergen 2000 project. For his first solo CD, "Profiles", which was released in February 2000 on the MTG label, Vigulf performs with Professor Einar Henning Smebye and strings from the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Vigulf has started his own contemporary music theatre, presenting contemporary/ classical music in different instrument combinations. During the 2000 season, Vigulf will perform with percusssion, strings, piano and dance.
Vigulf is a permanent member of the Polaris Ensemble, together with the violinist Harald Aadland and the pianist Geir Henning Braaten.
