D'Arcy Trinkwon is one of the distinguished musicians of his generation. Acclaimed for his singular, instinctive talent, the passion and elemental force of his playing has established him a unique position in his profession.
Renowned for his dedication to the organ as a concert instrument, he pursues an itinerant path in demand by leading international festivals and concert series. worldwide. Uneasy with certain aspects of the music industry - particularly recordings, competitions and so-called "popularization" - he has sought to concentrate his endeavours as a 'live' musician. Never having sought the traditional role of a cathedral or university position, he has instead followed the path of a concert organist since his student days Recent performances have included recitals in St Paul's Cathedral Celebrity series, the City of London Festival, the Alexandra Palace, the Celebrity Recital for the 17th London Organ Day, the Madeleine and Saint-Sulpice (Paris), Buenos Aires Festival Permanente, Bonn Reger Internationale Tagen, Passau Cathedral International Concerts, Salzburg Internationale Konzerte, Festival Internacional del Uruguay, Sens International Organ Festival, Au Son d'Orgue d'Orléans, the USA etc. In 2003 he also gave European performances with the Austrian trumpeter Igor Oder. He has performed several solo concert cycles - among them "The King of Instruments" (8 programmes), "The Great Organ Works of J. S. Bach" (6 concerts) and "The English Romantic Organist" (4 concerts). Apearances in 2004 include three tours in Germany - including a recital in Berlin Cathedral's International Organ Concerts. He has performed in France every year since 1988, and this year's invitations include Notre-Dame, Le Chemin des Orgues in Troyes and his 8th recital in Auxerre Cathedral's summer series: he will also give duet recitals with the French virtuoso Michael Matthes. Other tours will take him to Scandinavia, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, the USA etc. In the UK his engagements include the opening concert in the first Grand Organ Festival at Westminster Cathedral for six years. The master of an unlimited repertoire - one of the most extensive of any artist before the public today - he revels in performing all the instrument's literature. In addition to the established masterpieces, he has also given numerous first performances - most recently the London premier of Messiaen's recently discovered Prélude. Several composers have written works for him including Odile Pierre, Maxime Patel and Salim Haddad. A musician of scholarship, his interpretations, although meticulously considered and respectful of the relevant historical sources remain instinctive and 'living' rather than sanctimoniously academic and this dynamic approach has enlivened his teaching and Masterclasses here and abroad, most recently for the Troyes Conservatoire National de Musique. Of South American and French ancestry, D'Arcy demonstrated a prodigious talent as a painter from the earliest age. It was only, reluctantly, whilst a chorister - and later Head-Chorister - at Canterbury Cathedral that he realised his vocation to play the organ inspired in particular by the music and life of Liszt, which has remained central to his artistic development. Subsequently he won prizes in his studies of both organ and piano, working with many revered teachers: however, an uncompromising free spirit his hatred of being fettered by any one approach has continually spurred him to look further and conquer his own and new quests. D'Arcy Trinkwon is passionately inspired by the inter-relationship of the arts and away from the organ pursues active study and interest in fine arts, architecture. He has also studied dance.
