Jenefer Townsend
Flute
Jenefer Townsend began playing the flute at the age of seven, and after graduating up
through the local music centres, became lead flute of the Derbyshire County
Wind Band and Youth Orchestra. She has toured with the wind band to
Switzerland, Israel and Holland, performing the flute solo in The Carnival of
Venice. Whilst in Holland, she came 2nd in the 'Purmerade International
Youth Music Festival'. After A-levels at South East
Derbyshire College, Jenefer is now completing studies at the Leeds College of Music, whilst working as a teacher and soloist.
The studies at Leeds College of Music have given performance opportunities,
including lunch-time recitals, evening concerts and the chance to perform
the Ibert Flute Concerto with the Leeds Symphony Orchestra.
Prizes and scholarships won during the last two
years include 'The Robert Tebb Trophy for
Outstanding Musicianship', the 'Rotary Club of Leeds First Music
Scholarship', the 'John Sheerer Prize for Woodwind', the 'Friends
Scholarship' and the 'Lawrence Croswaithe Chamber Memorial Prize'.
Jenefer has given solo performances in many concert venues, churches and schools
etc. around the Midlands, and will soon be making her professional debut
at the Leeds City Art Gallery.
