Sergej Tchirkov was born in October, 27 (1980) in St.Petersburg and started playing the accordion at the age of 6. After finishing music school he was invited to continue studies in St. Petersbourg Conservatoire's Secondary Special Music School with renowned performer and teacher Alexander Dmitriev. By this time, Sergej was already a prize-winner of different All-Russian competitions.
After gradjuating from the Special Music School, he entered St.-Petersburg's Rimskij-Korsakov Conservatoire. Sergej is currently studying with Prof. Alexander Dmitriev (accordion) and also studies composition with the renowned composer Prof.Sergej Slonimskij . As a composer, Sergej Tchirkov has attended several seminars at which he studied with Prof. P.-H. Dittrich, Prof. E.-H. Flammer (Germany), Prof. P.Decroupet (Belgium), Prof. G.McBurny (Great Britain) .
As a result of Sergej's researches in "new worlds of new sounds", he also works in the fields of electroacoustic and computer music.

Sergej has appeared many times in the concert halls of Russia and abroad and has also taken part in The St. Petersburg International Accordion Festival several times. He is considered a player of new music, as well as a classical musician, and has been invited to take part in various festivals of new music. In 1999 he gave the Russian premiere of F.Donatoni's accordion work. His repertoire includes music of different genres but consists first and foremost of contemporary new music.
Currently, his repertoire includes such works as: Franco Donatoni Feria-iv; Sofja Gubaidulina "De profundis"; Arne Nordheim "Flashing"; Georg Katzer Toccata; Jurgen Ganzer Phantazie-84; Krzysztof Olzchak Phantasmagorien and other works.
Sergej plays a great deal of classical music, as well as light music for entertaiment.
He is also engaged in working with composers who write music for accordion. As a result he has had several works dedicated to him.
In 2000, Sergej is to perform several world premieres: Works by A. Radvilovitch (Russia), K.Volniansky (Israel), S.Lavrova, M.Krutik (Russia). And Russian premieres: John Palmer "Drang", Klaus Huber "Winter Seeds", Mauricio Kagel "Episoden, Figuren", and other works.
