Swietly Piano Trio

Swietly Piano Trio The SWIETLY-KLAVIERTRIO (Swietly Piano Trio), founded in 1980, has been giving concerts internationally since 1991 in Germany, Denmark, England, Italy, Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Cyprus, South Korea, South Africa as well as in Austria (among others: Vienna Festival, Salzburg / Schloss Mirabell). Other activities of the ensemble include radio and TV appearances (ORF, RAI, MTV-Budapest, KBS/Seoul, Flemish-Festival, FMR/Cape Town) as well as the release of compact discs (broadcasted on the BBC, FMR/Cape Town and Austria's ORF).

The trio's repertoire represents the complete spectrum of the piano trio literature beginning from the Viennese classics, through romanticism to the twentieth century, and reaches far beyond the limits of conventional repertoire (Beatles, Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Chick Corea). The ensemble maintains relations with many well-known contemporary composers in Austria and internationally (Arvo Paert, Jenoe Takács, Peeter Vaehi). This has resulted in numerous dedications. Attention is drawn to some rare music found by the three and played exclusively; e.g. a piece by an anonymous composer of the late 18th century; a trio by Benedict Randhartinger, a close friend of Schubert; and works by Joseph Mayseder and Louis Fernand Prince of Prussia. Also some trio fragments by Mozart have been reconstructed and Hermann Swietly has taken up the challenge of completing unfinished compositions in the style of the composer. The Swietlys have edited and recorded some of these works on CD and in studio recordings upon invitation of the Austrian Radio Company (ORF).

The Swietly-Klaviertrio does not organise its own concerts but operates exclusively upon invitation.

The artistic home and permanent rehearsal venue is the Beethoven-memorial and former country seat of Countess Erdoedy in Floridsdorf (Vienna). The SWIETLY-KLAVIERTRIO is an honorary member and "trio in residence" of the Beethoven society of that place. It should be pointed out that Beethoven composed some of his most famous works there; among others, the trios opus 70, dedicated to Countess Erdoedy. We can assume these trios were first heard in the rooms of that tiny château. The first of the two in particular, is among the most celebrated of the chamber music repertoire and became well known as the "Geister-Trio". It is a standard and featured piece in the repertoire of the SWIETLY-KLAVIERTRIO.

Honorary membership was awarded to the ensemble by the Viennese "Friends of Chamber Music". The SWIETLY-KLAVIERTRIO is "trio in residence" at, among others, the Belgian Haydn-Biennale (Flemish Festival) and at the Austrian "Pannonian Festival".
