Raimondas Sviackevicius was born in 1975 in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. Following in the footsteps of his father (Prof. Ricardas Sviackevicius ), he bound his life with music. His earliest memories are of accordion music. His musical talent was evident very early: at the age of five he started to play piano. After primary schooling, at the age of eight he attended one of the Children's Music Schools in Vilnius and started to play accordion (studying with Irena Galkauskiene). After this, Raimondas became a student of the Lithuanian Conservatory (formerly Tallat-Kelpsa Music College), studying under Ruta Daubaryte. In 1993, after middle level studies, he entered the Lithuanian Music Academy (studying with Dr Zita Abromaviciute ). He completed four years of study and received the Bachelor Diploma. In 1999 he gained his accordion Master's degree there.
In 1998-1999 he studied the accordion under Prof. Bogdan Dowlasz at the Lodz Music Academy (Poland). In 1999-2000 he is studying at the Sibelius Academy (Helsinki, Finland) under Prof. Matti Rantanen and in The Royal Conservatory in The Hague (Netherlands) on Second-Phase studies under Prof. Friedrich Lips. His plans for the immediate future are to continue studying the accordion at some of the best academies.
During his studies, Raimondas took part in many accordion competitions, winning many of them. He has taken several first prizes at the Lithuanian National Competition of the Lithuanian Accordionists Association (1987, 1989, 1995, 1997). In 1996 he was awarded the first prize in the duet section at the International accordion competition "Citta di Castelfidardo" (Italy) and 4th Diploma in solo section (cat.D). In 1998, at the same competition, he won 3rd prize in cat.D. In 1999 he won 2nd prize at the International Music Competition "Comune di Pianello Val Tidone" (Italy). Then in August he participated in the International Accordion Prize "Stefano Bizzarri " and won there 1st prize in piano accordion section. Also he was awarded the special prize for the best interpretation of the obligatory piece M.A.Pisegna "Ludi florales".
His youth means that he has not yet taken part in many international competitions, but the results he has achieved have been very good. As a performer, Raimondas has given many accordion concerts with a varied programme at home and abroad. Raimondas has performed in many countries, including Germany, Holland, Poland, Latvia, Finland, Denmark etc. He has performed both as a soloist and in duet. He also plays jazz music with various musicians and groups.
Besides concert activity, Raimondas teaches the accordion at the Music School and Conservatory in Vilnius.
His repertoire, which ranges from composers of the Baroque era to new works by contemporary composers, includes music by J.S.Bach, F.Liszt, D.Scarlatti, C.D'aquen, A.Schurbin, V.Semionov, A.Naimushin, B.Dowlasz, B.Precz, J.Tamulionis, V.Loceris, E.Jokkinen,V.Patzukevich, S.Rendine, etc. He has been touched and influenced by numerous artists, with musical interests ranging from classical to avant-garde and jazz.
Raimondas Sviackevicius is now considered to be one of Lithuanian most promising young accordionists.
