Roi Ruottinen Roi Ruottinen has performed as a soloist with the most of the Finnish orchestras (Helsinki Filharmony, City Orchestras Oulu, Turku, Vantaa, Pietarsaari, Kotka etc.) and given recitals in the Kitakyushu International Festival (Japan, 1991); the Stars of the 21st Century festival in St. Petersburg, Russia 1992; Paris new conservatory 1992; in the Scandinavian Festival in Madrid and Barcelona (Spain 1993); the Korsholm Festival 1994; Turku Music Festival 1994; in Vienna, (Austria, 1994); performances in Aalborg (Denmark, 1996); the Odense Krzystof Penderecki Festival (Copenhagen Tivoli, 1998); and has toured in the Netherlands (Beurs van Berlage, Enschede Amphi-Theatre, and with YS- Symphony Orchestra in Amsterdam), Germany (Bielefeld St. Maria Church) and was soloist with Orquesta Sinfonica de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia.

AWARDS:

He was born in Finland in 1971, and started studying cello at the age of four at Vantaa Music Institute. His professional studies were in Finland (1980-1990 Helsinki Conservatory and 1990-1994 Sibelius-Academy (Diploma 1994 excellent points 24/25)) and in Denmark (1995-1996 The Royal Danish Conservatory), and included study with Professor Martti Rousi and Professor Torleif Thedéen. He has also participated in master classes with Aldo Parisot, Janos Starker, David Geringas, Frans Helmersson, Arto Noras, Siegfried Palm, and lesson with Heinrich Schiff.

Upcoming performances include a USA tour in July/August 2000 (Michigan Hancock, Chicago, New York), a tour in France and Belgium in May 9th-13th 2000 (Lens, Antwerpen, Beauvais, Paris), concert and recording in Suomenlinna 17th June, 3 concerts in MUSICA NOVA festival (including world premiere by composer Lotta Wennäkoski's piece "Sydänkuu") and concerts in Ung Nordisk Musik Festival (Nordic festival) August 2000.

Roi Ruottinen teaches at the West Helsinki Music Institute, is a member of the UUSINTA chamber ensemble and was in 1997 principal cellist of Tapiola Sinfonietta. He plays an instrument by Nicolas Francoise Vuillaume, Brussels 1858.
