Edward Randall, tenor, studied acting and voice at Philadelphia's renowned Academy of Vocal Arts. Among his first roles with numerous opera companies including Chautauqua, Wolf Trap, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Boston were Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Ferrando in Cosi´fan tutte´ and Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
Mr. Randall made his European Debut in Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, which led to guest appearances in Austria and his eventual move to Berlin.
After successful guest appearances with the Städtisches Theater in Chemnitz as the Prince in Dvorak's Rusalka and Hoffmann in The Tales of Hoffmann, Mr. Randall was engaged as the leading tenor of the Chemnitz Opera's ensemble. The Chemnitz Opera is one of Germany's leading „A" houses and presents 250 repertoire performances of 25 major works every season. Since the 1992 opening of the renovated theater (Europe's most modern stage) Mr. Randall has shown his vocal and dramatic flexebility in over 500 performances in more than 25 new productions including Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Rinaldo in Haydn's Armida, Narraboth in Salome, Tom Rakewell in Stravinski's Rake's Progress, Macduff in Macbeth, Alfredo in La Traviata, Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser, Vogelgesang in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Don Jose´ in Carmen, Lyonell in Martha, Hans in The Bartered Bride, Male Chorus in Britten's The Rape of Lucrecia and Fenton in The merry Wives of Windsorand Il Conte d'Almaviva in Rossini's Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Mr. Randall's solid reputation has made him very popular in the demanding German repertoire system. His large repertoire (at any one time an average of 10 major works) has brought him to many of Germany's numerous opera theaters including the Komische Oper Berlin, Berliner Kammer Oper, Landesbühne Sachsen in Dresden, Musikalische Komödie in Leipzig, theaters in Erfurt, Rostock, Potsdam, Meiningen, Freiberg and Gelsenkirchen. Many times he has jumped into unseen productions with less than 24 hours notice. International operatic guest appearances include Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser in Venice, Italy, Narraboth in Salome in Seville, Spain and Tamino to Theo Adams Sprecher in the award winning production of Die Zauberflöte with the Sakai Opera, Japan. Edward Randall's concert repertoire is equally impressive and includes works from the baroque to the contemporary with an accent on the romantic works of the 19th and 20th centuries. Appearances include a tour of Japan with The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra performing Beethoven's IX Symphony and Mozart's Requiem with conductor Heinz Rögner. In Bruckner's Te Deum he made his debut with conductor Robert Gronostay in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall. Mendelssohn's Elijah is a regular part of his concert schedule having last sung it at the Bach Festival in Rostock. In Prague he sang with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra in Honegger's Le Roi David. Mr. Randall made his Israeli Debut with the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra in Telaviv in Britten's Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings. He received critical acclaim for his interpretation of Britten's Les Illumination with the Orchestra of the Staatstheater Meininger . In nearby Dresden he has become a regular in the concert scene and has been heard in such unusual works as Strauss's Des Esels Schatten with the Dresdener Philharmonie under the leadership of Swiss conductor Karl Anton Rickenbacher with Sir Peter Ustinov as narrator, Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Mendelssohn's Lobgesang with the Singakademie of Dresden in Dresden's center of church music „Die Kreuzkirch". This past season the title role in Elgar's Dream of Gerontius has been a regular on his schedule a role he repeated in Dresden's Kreuzkirche and in the cathedrals of Magdeburg and Hamburg. He sang the title role in Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust in concert with the Robert Schumann Philharmonie under the baton of Oleg Caetani. Most recently Mr. Randall sang King David in the world premier of Kurt Weill's opera Der Weg der Verheissung with American conductor John Mauceri in a Chemnitz Opera production which in the year 2000 will be seen in guest performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Israeli Opera and EXPO 2000 in Hannover. This season he adds in Chemnitz Turridu in Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana and the Prince in Rimsky Korsakovs fairy tale Cszar Saltan to his ever growing repertoire.
