His teaching has included a period as composer-in-residence in Keski-Suomi Conservatory's Music now! project (1998-1999), Pop-Jazz Conservatory, Helsinki (Autumn 1997), Perno school, (Autumn 1990) and teaching of the Sibelius 7 notation programme (since 1997).

In addition to his activities as a composer, Räihälä is a prolific author and journalist, writing hundreds of articles since 1989 in Turun Sanomat, Helsingin Sanomat, Rondo, Classica, and Finnish Music Quarterly, several hundred work presentations since 1996 for Helsinki Philharmonic, Tampere Philharmonic, Lappeenranta City Orchestra, Pori City Orchestra, Sibelius Academy and Länsi-Helsinki Music Institute, articles for The New Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians 1998-1999 and composer brochures for the Finnish Music Information Centre since 1996.
Work on notation graphics has been carried out for Finnish Music Information Centre, Warner/Chappel Music Finland Oy, SULASOL and various performers.
Osmo Tapio Räihälä is also president of the Ung Nordisk Musik (Young Nordic Music) Finnish department 1995-1998, secretary general of the Ung Nordisk Musik festival (1998-2000), head of information for the Ung Nordisk Musik 2000 festival, and founder and manager of the Uusinta chamber orchestra (since 1998).
