Trygve Peterson

Flute


Trygve Peterson Trygve Peterson, a native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, began his professional training at the New England Conservatory of Music as a student of James Pappoutsakis. He has subsequently received the Master of Music degree from the Yale School of Music, where he worked with Thomas Nyfenger, and most recently, the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The Juilliard School, studying with Samuel Baron. Peterson also spent several years in Europe studying with James Galway, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Alain Marion, Marcel Moyse, William Bennett, and Maxence Larrieu.

Peterson has performed as a member of the Connecticut Philharmonic, the New Haven Symphony, the Philharmonica de Caracas, in Austria and Italy with the American Institute of Musical Studies Orchestra, the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, and on European tour with the American Sinfonietta. Guest soloist appearances have included the Chicago, Denver, Washington, Boston, Kansas City, and New York conventions of the National Flute Association. He is an avid recitalist and chamber musician as well, performing widely at universities and in concert series across the United States.

As a teacher and master class artist, he has worked with students at numerous schools, universities, and flute societies throughout the United States. A frequent contest adjudicator, he served as a judge for the finals of the Texas Flute Society's Myrna Brown Competition, and the National Flute Association's 1995 High School Young Artist Competition and 1996 Piccolo Artist Competition. Most recently, he has agreed to be the Program Chair for the 1998 National Flute Association National Convention to be held in Phoenix. He has taught on the faculties of the University of Alabama, Virginia Tech, the Ohio University School of Music, and is currently at the Arizona State University School of Music. Dr. Peterson also teaches and performs each summer on the faculty of the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, North Carolina.
