John Perkins
Indian Classical Sitar
John Perkins began his study of the Sitar in 1970. He has made 12 trips to India to develop his skills, the last being in the winter of '98 / '99 when he studied under Thakur Dr Raj Bhan Singh for the fifth such occasion.

John Perkins' most recent performances have included:
- November 1998: Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for the world premiere of 'Marco Polo' a new symphony by Tan Dun and also subsequently at the London Barbican Hall.
- October 1999 (update): Queen Mary and Westfield College, Bethnal Green; Questors Theatre, Ealing, and Council for Music in Hospitals.

- in recording sessions for Mike Harding & Suns of ARQA
- on local radio for BBC Cornwall, Devon, Milton Keynes, Leicester, Devon Air & Gemini Radio (Plymouth and Exeter)
- in concert at the Purcell Room and London School of Contemporary Dance as accompanist to Suriya Kumari and "India Performing Arts"; tour in South Africa for the Indian Academy of Durban; South West Arts tour; "Live Music Now!" tour in West Midlands schools and hospitals; and as a recitalist for the Council for Music in Hospitals
- at festivals, regularly at Glastonbury since 1983, Elephant, Hood, Otmoor, Somerfield Folk, Campus since 1991, and the Asian Music Festival at Henley-on-Thames July 1999
- in workshops and demonstrations at numerous schools and colleges
His accompanists on tabla have included: Lewis Riley, Keshev Sathe, Sanju Sahai, Markande Misra, Visvajit Pal, Mik Ripsher, Dave Voase, Jaleeb, Leon Farmer, Madan Lal, Shiv Shankar Misra and Shiv Sahai.
