St. Peders Concert Choir, Randers, Denmark, was founded in 1980 by its present conductor, the organist Karstein Blond. Through the years the choir has given numerous concerts at home and abroad, has made several appearences on radio and television and has performed a number of major works for choir and orchestra. Since 1988, St. Peders Concert Choir has successfully participated in international choral competitions and festivals every year. Special emphasis should be given to the First Prizes in 1992 and 1996 in the mixed category in the highly-esteemed and demanding International Béla Bartók Choral Competition in Debrecen, Hungary, as well as a First Prize and the Grand Prix in Ventspils, Latvia in 1994. The choir is especially devoted to contemporary a capella church music from the Nordic countries, and to composers such as Vagn Homboe, Niels la Cour, John Høybye, Knut Nystedt, Svend-David Sandström and Sulo Salonen. In 1998 the choir recorded a CD with a capella music written by Vagn Holmboe. This recording was made in cooperation with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation. "I would like this choir to sing at my funeral - and then I wish I were not dead!" (Evan-Th. Vestergaard, Denmark Radio). "This afternoon I heard my work "De Profundis" on the Hungarian Radio. I was happy to hear your very good, dramatic and authentic singing. I congratulate you on this performance and on the First Prize, too!" (József Karai, Hungary; composer).
