Born in Trento (Italy), Franco Mezzena studied with Salvatore Accardo.
As a soloist and in duo with Bruno Mezzena he has appeared in the most important concert halls and festivals such as "Teatro Regio" in Turin, "Sala Grande del Conservatorio" in Milan, "Sala Bossi" in Bologna, "Teatro Comunale" in Treviso, "La Fenice" in Venice, Teatro Comunale" in Modena, "Accademia di S. Cecilia" in Rome, "Settimane Internazionali" in Naples, "V.Bellini" in Catania, and in Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Poitiers, "Grosse Musikvereinsaal" in Wien, "Gewandhaus" in Leipzig, Berlin, Prague, Sofia, Budapest, Zagreb, Odessa, Istanbul, Bologna Festival, Palermo, Addis Abeba, Nairobi, Tsuna, Kitakyushu, Osaka, Tokyo, etc.
He has been many times on tour with "I Musici" and "I Virtuosi di Roma" and performed together with celebrated artists such as Accardo, Ricci, Giuranna, Ferraresi, Filippini, Canino, Klein, Petracchi, Pay, Berger, Fabbriciani, Gazzelloni. He plays in duo with the guitarist Massimo Scattolin, with whom he founded the " Paganini Consort" along with Marcello Defant and Walter Vestidello. He is also first violin of the famous "Quintetto Italiano". Franco Mezzena is world famous for the many CDs he recorded for Dynamic, Symposium, Rivo Alto, Nuova Era, E.M.S. Arcobaleno. He is recording for Dynamic the complete concertos for violin and orchestra by G.B. Viotti, where he appears as soloist and conductor of the "Symphonia Perusina". He is Professor at the Conservatory and Music Academy in Pescara and gives Master Classes in Italy (S. Antioco, "Musica Riva", Alghero, Naples) and abroad (Rotterdam, Académié d' été d'Andé, etc.).
