ADRIAN LUCAS is currently Master of the Choristers at Worcester Cathedral, having previously held posts at St John's College Cambridge, Salisbury, Norwich and Portsmouth Cathedrals prior to moving to Worcester in 1996.
The core of his work centres around the daily singing of the liturgy by the Cathedral Choir at Worcester where he has already made a number of recordings and broadcasts, as well as a documentary film about the boys' choir tradition in Western Europe "L'Or des Anges". Recent recording projects have included a disk of Christmas music for boys' voices with harp and organ, including his new 25 minute sequence of carols from which the album takes its name, Noël, a collaborative recording with Gloucester and Hereford Cathedrals featuring the beautiful Requiem of Maurice Duruflé, and an 80th birthday celebration recording with Sir David Willcocks (due to be released in September). In addition to his work with the Cathedral Choir, Adrian Lucas is widely respected as a conductor and works regularly with orchestras including the Philharmonia, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. As director of the Worcester Three Choirs Festival in 1999 he has enjoyed the challenge of taking this celebrated and historic event firmly towards the new millennium with a ground-breaking performance of Duke Ellington with the Stan Tracey Orchestra and a world première of Francis Pott's A Song on the End of the World, received to great acclaim by national and international media. In July 2000, he also took over the conductorship of the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra, and in the Autumn of 2002, he took over the musical directorship of the City of Birmingham Choir from the distinguished baton of Christopher Robinson. In the context of the Festival, he is spearheading an ambitious commission of a jazz choral work for full chorus and orchestra for the 2002 event. He continues his conducting studies at the Royal Academy of Music with Colin Metters. Contact details and further informationE-mail Adrian Lucas For further details, see Adrian Lucas' website |
