Geir Inge Lotsberg was born in 1969 and comes from the town of Elverum, Norway. He has studied the violin with Leif Jørgensen since 1979, and later with Sandor Végh in Salzburg for a year and a half. In addition to this, he has also studied for brief periods of time with Camilla Wicks in Houston, Texas and with Ana Chumachenco in Munich.
He has performed as a solo artist with the Norwegian Youth Symphony Orchestra, the "Camerata Academica", Salzburg, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the orchestra of the Norwegian National Opera and the orchestra of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). In 1995 he presented in collaboration with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg a concert series of Mozart's violin sonatas in Oslo and London. All of the concerts from Oslo were broadcast as a series entitled "Mildly Mozart" (Milde Mozart) by the NRK radio station P2. In the summer of 1996 he performed Bach's "Six Solos for Violin" in concerts in Stavanger and in Oslo. The same autumn he held his debut concert in the University Aula in Oslo, with a Carl Nielsen program. He received the "National Association of Music Friends Debut Award" for this concert. In recent years he has been frequently on tour with the program "Folk Tunes and Bach" (Folketonar and Bach), together with Kåre Nordstoga and Arve Moen Bergset. This particular concert project has led to the release of the CD "Religious Folk Tunes" (Religiøse folketonar). The collaboration with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg and Kåre Nordstoga has also resulted in two CD recordings, the three Grieg Sonatas and the six J.S.Bach sonates BWV 1014-19. As a member of the Oslo String Quartet he has contributed to the formation of a concert series in the University Aula in Oslo, performing also as a visiting artist at festivals both in Norway and abroad. The quartet has made a series of CD recordings for Naxsos. Geir Inge Lotsberg was an active member of the string trio "Opus 3" for many years, in collaboration with Henning Kraggerud and Natasha Brofsky. The trio toured for the Norwegian Concert Institute, performed at the Bergen International Festival and toured with the string trio version of Bach's Golberg Variations. Geir Inge Lotsberg has, together with Håvard Gimse, been responsible in recent years for the program at the Elverum Music Festival. He holds a half-position as concert master of the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra and is affiliated with the Barratt-Due Institute in Oslo as a part-time instructor.
