Cellist Wendy Law has appeared as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Symphonietta, the Civic Symphony of Boston, the Newton Symphony of Boston, the New Philharmonia Orchestra, and the New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. She has toured Chile and Argentina as soloist with the NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. The documentary of the tour, filmed by WGBH Boston, was broadcast nationally on public television stations. Ms. Law's recording of composer Wing-Fai Law's "Phantasm" with the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, is available under the Hugo Label.
Ms. Law has won numerous awards, including first place in the Fishoff National Competition, first prize in the Kingsville International Competition, and the first level award from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. She also won the Boston Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, the Harvard Musical Association Achievement Award, as well as local and national prizes in American String Teacherís Association Competition.
An active chamber musician, Wendy Law has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Pamela Frank, Leon Fleisher, and the Borromeo String Quartet. As a member of the Amaryllis String Quartet, Ms. Law's performances included the Kennedy Center and the Royal Palace of Chile.
Wendy Law is currently a scholarship undergraduate student at the New England Conservatory, studying with Laurence Lesser. In addition, Ms. Law has attended festivals such as the Tanglewood Music Center, the Ravinia Festival, the Piatigorsky Seminar For Cellists, the New Music Festival in Toronto, the Banff Music Festival in Canada, and the Caramoor Music Festival in New York.
Upcoming performances for Ms. Law include the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and a commisioned concerto by Alice Ho to be performed with the Hong Kong Symphonietta.
Critic Harry Rolnick of the South China Morning Post in reviewing Wendy Law's solo recital in Hong Kong in 1996 wrote: ". . . she inevitably is going to rise up to that rare pantheon of great cellists."
