Born in Cosenza, Italy, in 1964, Libero Lanzilotta studied at the Conservatory "L. Cherubini" under the guidance of maestro Alfredo Brandi and in 1983 he received his diploma in double bass Magna Cum Laude. He also studied harmony and counterpoint with maestro Franco Cioci. He was principle double bass of the ORT-Orchestra della Toscana in Florence, and he won several positions in the most prestigious Italian orchestras, among which the Orchestra Sinfonica dell' Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Teatro Comunale, Florence and Teatro alla Scala di Milano.
An active chamber musician, he has performed in a duo and as soloist. From 1984 to 1994, he was professor of double bass at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and after at the Conservatory of Music in Menton, France. He has been principal bass of the Orchestra Philharmonic of Monte Carlo, Monaco, (even performing as solist) and has teached at the Music Acadamy "Prince Rainer III" of Monaco.
Presently he is principal solo-bassist of the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome (Italy).
He is regularly invited as teacher in International Bass Stages.
