Karel Košárek comes from the youngest generation of talented Czech pianists. After attending the P. J. Vejvanovský Conservatory for four years, he continued his studies and graduated from the Prague Conservatory, where he studied with Professor Valentina Kameníková. The next great teachers who influenced his artistic development were Professor František Rauch and Kvitoslava Bilinská at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts.

In 1991, as winner of an international audition, Mr. Košárek was granted a four-year scholarship to attend Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He studied under the tutelage of two important teachers, Dr. Harris Crohn and Prof. Joaquin Achucarro. He graduated in 1995 after having completed the Artist Certificate Program and was additionally awarded a Master's Degree in Music.

Mr. Košárek has won several international competitions. In 1990, he was the first-prize winner of the Smetana International Piano Competition. Later, he was awarded the Laureate Prize of the F. P. Neglia International Competition in Enna, Italy. More successes followed with his winning the Corpus Christi Young Artists Competition in 1992 and the San Antonio Piano Competition in 1993. In addition to these prizes, he was granted the Von Mickwitz prize for being "the best graduating pianist of Southern Methodist University" in 1992 and the J. K. Wilson prize in 1993 for "the most outstanding S.M. U. student majoring in the arts."

In 1995 and 1996 Mr. Košárek performed recitals and concerts in Dallas, Palm Beach, Tel Aviv, St. Petersburg and Prague as well as in other cities. Each of his many performances received, without exception, the highest critical acclaim, documenting his broad artistic activity on the international music scene. He achieved great artistic success as a finalist in May 1997 at the very prestigious Walter Naumburg Piano Competition in New York forllowing which, he returned to Europe to perform in the Prague Spring Festival. His most recent performances were in Japan where he played several concerts.
