Stuart Howe

Stuart Howe has appeared in Opera and Operetta throughout the US and Europe and Canada. Born in
Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, he owes his successful Canadian operatic
debut to Opera New Brunswicks production of La Bohčme, in the role of
Rodolfo. Stuart made his critically acclaimed European debut as Nemorino
in Donizettis Lelisir damore in Oporto, Portugal. In the States,
Mr. Howe has appeared in Opera Mississaugas Opera Stars
concert program, in Rossinis William Tell and Verdis
Attila for Washington Concert Opera and Lehárs Merry Widow,
Puccinis Madame Butterfly, Verdis Rigoletto
and Susannah by Carlisle Floyd for Central City Opera.
Mr. Howe has also performed Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Jenik in The Bartered Bride, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Fadinard in Nino Rotas The Italian Straw Hat and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus. Mr. Howe has created roles in world premier operas such as Robert Wards Lady Kate, where he created the role of Tom Wade and the role of Marco in The Padrone, a work written by Chadwick, the former President of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. (The work was commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera in the early part of the century, but was not staged until 1997). He was also a featured artist in Encore! Opera in concert and performed a selection of arias and duets in two cities in Atlantic Canada. In Operetta, Stuart has received rave reviews as Chris Columbus in Offenbachs Christopher Columbus, Jonel in Lehárs Zigeunerliebe and Dick Dauntless in Gilbert and Sullivans Ruddigore. Concert credits include The Messiah, Mendelssohns Elijah , Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and recently Bachs Magnificat with Symphony New Brunswick. Stuart received a Theater Arts Diploma from Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton before moving to the United States to receive a Performance Diploma from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio and a Graduate Diploma in Opera at Bostons New England Conservatory of Music.
