Stuart Howe

Stuart Howe Stuart Howe has appeared in Opera and Operetta throughout the US and Europe and Canada. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, he owes his successful Canadian operatic debut to Opera New Brunswick’s production of La Bohčme, in the role of Rodolfo. Stuart made his critically acclaimed European debut as Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in Oporto, Portugal. In the States, Mr. Howe has appeared in Opera Mississauga’s Opera Stars concert program, in Rossini’s William Tell and Verdi’s Attila for Washington Concert Opera and Lehár’s Merry Widow, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Verdi’s Rigoletto and Susannah by Carlisle Floyd for Central City Opera.

Mr. Howe has also performed Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Jenik in The Bartered Bride, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Fadinard in Nino Rota’s The Italian Straw Hat and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus. Mr. Howe has created roles in world premier operas such as Robert Ward’s Lady Kate, where he created the role of Tom Wade and the role of Marco in The Padrone, a work written by Chadwick, the former President of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. (The work was commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera in the early part of the century, but was not staged until 1997). He was also a featured artist in Encore! Opera in concert and performed a selection of arias and duets in two cities in Atlantic Canada.

In Operetta, Stuart has received rave reviews as Chris Columbus in Offenbach’s Christopher Columbus, Jonel in Lehár’s Zigeunerliebe and Dick Dauntless in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore. Concert credits include The Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah , Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and recently Bach’s Magnificat with Symphony New Brunswick. Stuart received a Theater Arts Diploma from Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton before moving to the United States to receive a Performance Diploma from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio and a Graduate Diploma in Opera at Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music.
