Marcos M. Valcàrcel Gregorio

Percussion


Marcos M. Valcárcel Gregorio, who is Professor of Percussion and Harmony in the private Conservatory Mayeusis in Vigo, Spain, specialises in Drums, Snaredrum, Kettledrums, Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone, Multipercussión and Cuban percussion.

After studying at Superior Institute of Art of the Havana, he has held a series of professor posts, at the "Alejandro García Caturla" and "Amadeo Roldán" conservatoires, the National Centre for Artistic Teaching and the Superior Institute of Art of Havana, as well as professor of the International Courses of Cuenca, Spain.

As a performer he has been soloist and principal of the Percussion section in the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Cuba, member of the instrumental "Nuestro Tiempo" ("Our Time") ensemble, which is dedicated to contemporary music, Director of the "Combo Del Malecón", and member of the jazz quartet "Versatile", the Tony d'Arco Jazz Cuartet", "Son de la Havana", "Saoco" and "Arabot".

He has made recordings with Philharmonic Orchestra of Havana, the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), Cuban Institute of Art and Film industry (ICAIC), Carlos Nuñez, Cuchus Pimentel, Sintonía de Vigo, Rodrigo Romani and others.

Gregorio has made orchestral arrangements for the Coral Casablanca of Vigo, the "Combo Del Malecón", the group "Saoco", the Camerata Viguesa" and for Rodrigo Romani (former director of Milladoiro).

He is currently working on a publication The Cuban Percussion, their rhythms and their instruments.
