Leonard Garrison

Flute


Leonard Garrison Dr Leonard Garrison is Second Flute and Piccolo of the Tulsa Philharmonic, Instructor of Flute at the University of Tulsa, and flutist in The Scott/Garrison Duo. He also teaches and performs at the Red Lodge Music Festival in Montana and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. He has been a soloist on National Public Radio's Performance Today, has played concerti on both flute and piccolo with the Tulsa Philharmonic, and has performed frequently at National Flute Association conventions. His annual Faculty Recitals are popular events for Tulsa audiences.

Dr Garrison was formerly an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas and at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He has performed in the Chicago Symphony, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Scotia Festival, and the Music Festival of Arkansas. The Flutist Quarterly and Flute Talk have published his articles, and he currently serves as Treasurer of The National Flute Association.

Leonard holds a Doctor of Music degree from Northwestern University, where he studied with Walfrid Kujala and Richard Graef. He received Master of Music and Master of Arts degrees from The State University of New York at Stony Brook, studying with Samuel Baron. His Bachelor of Music is from the The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where his teacher was Robert Willoughby. He has participated in numerous festivals and master classes, including the William Bennett class at Wildacres, the 1991 Centre Acanthes in France with Elliott Carter and Robert Aitken, the Tanglewood Festival, the Oberlin Flute Institute with Michel Debost and Kathleen Chastain, Aston Magna, the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin, and the National Music Camp at Interlochen.
