In 1989 Scott went up to Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (University of London) to read music and as Organ Scholar playing for the daily services, concerts and broadcasts. Upon graduation, Scott pursued postgraduate studies at the Institute of Education (University of London), combining this with the position of Assistant Organist at St Paul's, Knightsbridge.

In August 1993 Scott took up the full-time post of Assistant Director of Music at St.Edmundsbury Cathedral. Whilst at St Edmundsbury, Scott toured Germany, Hungary, Belgium and France as well as appearing on national and international television and radio and recording four CD's with the Cathedral Choir. From February 1997 Scott was Acting Director of Music for six months in which time he conducted the New London Orchestra in the Bury St Edmunds Festival, masterminded the music for the Enthronement of the new Diocesan Bishop as well as maintaining the round of daily choral worship.

In January 1999 Scott moved to  Ely Cathedral as Assistant Organist to work alongside Paul Trepte. As well as playing for the daily choral services, Scott was a piano and organ tutor at the King's School and also the School Organist. He recorded two CD's there, and toured Malta with the Cathedral Choir, as well as appearing with the Britten Sinfonia in Poulenc's Organ Concerto.

He is now Director of Music at Newcastle Cathedral.

Outside the Cathedral, Scott leads a busy life as a teacher, conductor and accompanist. As a soloist his recitals have included appearances at Westminster Abbey, York Minster and St. Paul's Cathedral. His first solo CD is entitled French Connections.
