"Throw Max
Dyer into any stylistic music-pool and he will
swim! Extraordinary versatility, an intuitive spirit, and finely-honed performing skills make him a rare musician among musicians." Betty Pulkingham, pianist and liturgical composer Max Dyer is a cellist with over 25 years of professional experience in the United States and abroad. As an improvising cellist, he is fluent in many musical styles and performs at festivals, jazz and folk clubs, churches and recording studios. He is producer for Nightwatch recording and Artistic Director of the New World Renaissance Band. His jazz trio PICO performed recently at the International Percussive Arts Society Conference in Los Angeles and at the New Directions Cello Festival in Connecticut. He was featured as solo cellist on the 1998 Grammy-nominated CD by the Gospel Rock Band Third Day. Continually expanding his stylistic repertoire, he is currently collaborating with classical Indian singer Nanda Banerjee, internationally renowned folksinger Shawn Phillips, Blackfeet Indian singer/songwriter Jack Gladstone, the speed metal rock band Galactic Cowboys, and New Age folksinger Selia Qynn. Max also plays with the Renaissance Festival group CANTIGA and the highly ecclectic trio "The Moons of Jupiter". As a classical cellist, he plays with the Houston Ballet Orchestra and performed and toured for three seasons with the Houston Symphony. During the past year he has also performed with the Houston Grand Opera, Houston Masterworks Chorus and the New York City Ballet. During the 70's, Max toured widely in Great Britain and Sweden with the Fisherfolk, a Christain folk group working in the charismatic renewal of the church. As a member of the Fisherfolk, he led worship in churches and cathedrals throughout Great Britain and led music residencies at Oxford University and Kings College Cambridge. Max holds a Bachelors of Music Degree from the University of Houston and a Masters Degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. He has recently completed a transcription for cello of a John Dowland lute work, La Mia Barbara that will be published later in 1999. His wife, Cornelia Watkins is also a cellist. They have two sons, Danny and Jeremy, and are expecting a third in November. Contact details and further informationE-mail Max Dyer For further details, see Max Dyer's home page |
