Duo46

Guitar and violin duo

Duo46 Duo46, with MATT GOULD on guitar and BETH ILANA SCHNEIDER on violin, was formed in 1994 to ensure the future of chamber music with guitar locally, nationally and globally via the web. An unusual and emerging guitar and violin ensemble, Duo46 has appeared on concerts with world renowned performers such as Ruth Laredo, Gilbert Kalisch and the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and has been heard in Brazil, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and as far away as Singapore. They have commissioned over two dozen new works, toured the United States annually, and expanded their venues from recitals in concert halls to performances in cinematheques. Awards include a top prize in the Baltimore Chamber Music Competition, a recording grant from the Hilda Cohan Trust Fund, and a Shouse Artist Fellowship for the 1999 Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival in Michigan. Most recently Duo46 has been appointed tp the faculty of Eastern Mediterranean University on the island of Cyprus.

Their debut recording, FM1: HOMAGE TO THE 50s, celebrates pioneer composers of the 1950's 'avant-garde' movement, and features previously unrecorded works by central European composers on the Guitar Plus Records label. This Cd is the first of an annual series released on the 'Dia de los Muertos' (the day of the dead), and documents over 100 original and rarely heard works for violin and guitar from the 20th century. Their next recording, UNTAMING THE FURY, features recent commissions by emerging American composers T.G. Febonio, Neil Flory, Stacy Garrop, Anthony Joseph Lanman, Kristi McGarity, Joshua Penman, and Justin Rubin. The Cd also will include performances of works by American composers who have added enormously to our national heritage including Fred Kaufman, Steve Mackey, and Steven Funk Pearson. Both recordings are distributed on-line by The Orchard.
