Jos Beijer (born 1970) studied organ and church music in Utrecht. Among his teachers were Willem Tanke, Maurice Pirenne and Jan Raas. In 1995 he took his organ teaching diploma, with a dissertation entitled 'Pros and Cons of Electronic Instrument Application in Teaching Organ Playing' (in Dutch). In 1997 he took a degree in church music. In 1998 he completed further study in concert organ performance, including studies in Music Technology with Ernst Bonis. As choral conductor, he is studying with Joop Schets in Gorinchem, and attended choir-conducting workshops led by Eric Ericson, Uwe Gronostay and Anthony Zielhorst. He directs the Mauriks KamerKoor, the parish choir in Loenen a/d vecht St. Caecilia, the RC children's choir "LuLuLoe" in Loenen, youth choir Ariënza (Maarssen) and The Valentinoos, a little senior choir in Maurik. In 1990 he performed Hugo Distler's Weihnachtsgeschichte with the Culemborgs KamerKoor. In 1995 he was one of the four directors in the première of Wim Francken's Missa Nicolaï (for two choirs, two organs, brass quartet and plainchant). This performance has been recorded by NCRV-radio. In 1997 he performed with the vocal ensemble Koorts the première from Gene Carl's De afrekening. In 1998, on the occasion of the first concert on the Maurik MIDI pipe organ, the première was given of Beijer's Kroniek, a historical description for choir, plainchant and MIDI pipe organ. Beijer has attended workshops led by Peter Bares, Szigmund Szatmary, Marie-Madeleine Duruflé, Harald Vogel and Andreas Liebig. In 1994 he won first prize at the national organ competition in Leiden (Holland), category 20th century. He has played recitals all over Holland, as well as in Germany, Denmark and Poland. He specialises in performing 20th-century organ music. Jos is the organist of the RC Ludgerus church in Loenen a/d Vecht. Being the organist in Maurik, Jos was responsible for building a MIDI-pipe-organ. This is a mechanical pipe organ which is able to play electronic music instruments by velocity-sensing MIDI-contacts. This meeting between the worlds of organ and music technology has enabled composers to start a new movement in composing for the organ. Jos is still responsible for the concerts on this instrument. Jos Beijer is one of the founders of the Hollands Symphonisch Duo, an organ ensemble involved in extending the repertoire possibilities of the organ. Jos Beijer is also a composer, writing mainly chamber music and works for MIDI-organ. He has also composed many works for liturgical use. He was first prize winner in composition at the National Youth Choir Competition in Rijsbergen, 2000. He has often been commissioned to write compositions, for instance by the Nederlandse Sint-Gregoriusvereniging, the "Tell Brass" ensemble, and the "Chór Adoramus" chamber choir (Slubice, Poland). Dirigent
