Don Bailey
Flute |

Don Bailey, flutist, has performed as a soloist, recitalist and chamber
musician in New York and throughout the US and Europe. With long-time friend
and pianist Leslie Jones, he has appeared on numerous concert series in New
York, Texas, and Pennsylvania. He has been heard on radio stations throughout
the United States and has performed live for WNYC Radio and KUT’s Eklecticos
in Austin, Texas. With members of the Atlanta Symphony and Cleveland
Orchestra, he was recently showcased at the National Flute Association
convention in Atlanta, GA (3500 attendees), premiering his debut CD, VOYAGE.

In New York Mr. Bailey has performed as a soloist in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Bruno Walter Auditorium, CAMI Hall, Symphony Space, in recital at St. Bartholomew’s “Great Music in the Chapel” series, and in concerts under the auspices of the National Park Service and American Landmark Festivals. He has been a guest at several National Flute Association conventions and has been featured at numerous festivals, including the Festival of Women Composers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania; the Riverbend Institute for the Arts in Minnesota, the Ravel and Debussy Festival in New York City, and the Louisiana Summer Flute Conservatory. As solo flutist with Classical Quintessence aboard the Cunard cruise ship Vistafjord (renamed Caronia 12/99) he toured several countries in Europe, North Africa, and South America. Currently freelancing in New York, Mr. Bailey has performed with the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Dallas Chamber and Bach Orchestras, the Shreveport Symphony, and Voices of Change, an internationally acclaimed new music ensemble. He has received awards at the World Flute Competition in Belfast, Northern Ireland; the Academie d’ete in Nice, France; and the Aspen Music Festival in Colorado. Mr. Bailey has taught flute at several American universities, served as president of the Texas and Louisiana Flute Societies, and for five years was a board member of the New York Flute Club for which he interviewed New York's distinguished flutists and published a monthly newsletter. He is a frequent adjudicator of music competitions, and his articles have been published in national journals. Mr. Bailey is a former board member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Association, an affiliate of the Dallas Symphony. His teachers include Julius Baker, Harvey Boatright, Michel Debost, Sharon Lebsack, Alain Marion, Judith Mendenhall, George Morey, Marcel Moyse, and Albert Tipton.
